One of the concepts that we here at SMG have been working on over the past several years is destination authenticity. We believe that the more a destination reaches into its local community the more character and uniqueness it will find, a uniqueness that will help to differentiate a destination from all others.
Well we’ve found one great example of how to do this. The Monterey CVB developed a contest that asked locals to design their own thirty-six hour staycations. This ended up being a great way to find the real gems of a destination, as provided by the people who knew them best – the locals. Monterey locals contributed 33 staycations, which are all posted on Monterey’s blog.
